Ely Fined 4000 for Sediment Runoff at Sewer Project
The city of Ely Iowa has agreed to pay a 4000 fine for failing to control sediment discharges from the Hoosier Creek Trunk Sewer Project runoff. The DNR found no erosion controls at the construction site during inspections in January 2022 and February 2023 and noted sediment entering an unnamed Hoosier Creek tributary. Ely must pay by early January and faced penalties reflecting the permit violations and water quality risks.
