Ruling voids Cedar Rapids fire hiring declaration
District Judge Thomas M. Horan voided a declaratory ruling by the Iowa Civil Rights Commission that found Cedar Rapids fire hiring discriminatory. He said the commission lacked notice and an opportunity to be heard and thus nullified the action issued March 16, 1978 following a NAACP petition alleging discrimination in age vision and education requirements for firefighters.
