The Iowa Water Air and Waste Management Commission rejected proposed stricter sulfur dioxide limits citing federal acid rain legislation uncertainty. It would leave most counties with current standards while 89 counties faced lower emissions targets. The move risks $3.4 million annual coal sales loss and affects the Marshalltown and Pella plants.
