Man Fined Five Dollars After Ax Incident

Robert Clapsaddle, 56, pleaded guilty in Linn District Court to assault for flinging an ax at 8-year-old Brian Coleman on Sept. 3. Heavy Snow Expected Across Iowa With Widespread Drift

A winter storm watch covers the north central and eastern Iowa as 4 to 8 inches of snow and gusty winds are forecast. Drop in U.S. aid to cities and states in 1982 shocks budgets

The Census Bureau reports federal aid to state and local governments fell in fiscal 1982 for the first time in over 30 years. Iowa lost 77 million, total aid dropped to 86.9 billion, welfare funding rose 2.6 billion, while overall government revenue reached 1.1 trillion. Taxes totaled 671.4 billion with federal share at 61 percent.
