The Navy along with Airesearch Manufacturing announced a pushbutton self starter for jets and turboprop craft. A compact 88 pound gas turbine and 20 pound turbine starter replace ground power units and enable engine starts under varied conditions. The program, costing about 2 million, aims to power air conditioning cabin systems and deicing while awaiting integration into experimental planes.
