Snow is expected Friday night over the northern plains and Mississippi valley with rain along the eastern slopes of the lower Rockies and parts of the North Atlantic coast. Fair to partly cloudy elsewhere. Mississippi River stages show minor rises and falls at LaCrosse Dubuque and Davenport with drain drops at Keokuk and McGregor.
The Daily Record reports births at St Luke's and Iowa City. December 10 11 births for Hess Linwell Hills Pederson Weppler with Weppler’s mother-in-law listed. Numerous traffic fines fines for speeding intoxication license violations and other infractions. Also lists dissolutions and notices with times of incidents and investigations.

Leon McRoberts 33, formerly of Tama, died Wednesday in Concord New Hampshire hospital. Born January 1 1942 in Marshalltown she studied at St Patrick s in Tama Northwestern Institute of Medical Technology in Minneapolis and University of Iowa. Survived by parents Harry and Mrs McRoberts Tama a brother William and sister Cornelia student at Iowa State University. Services set for Thursday 1:30 p.m. at Mason Hand s Burial at National Cemetery rural Vining. Visitation Tuesday afternoon. Memorial funds requested.
A Linn district court jury remained out Friday over Edward J. Wedelstedt’s alleged October 1974 fire at the Salty Dog tavern in Cedar Rapids. Closing arguments were made Thursday. this is the third jury to deliberate after a mistrial and a prior conviction voided on appeal. The trial started Monday before Judge Harold Vietor.
Mark Nieland 17 and his father Joe 43 of Oelwein were injured when Mark's car crossed the center line on Highway 175 east of Grundy Center and struck a semi-trailer. Mark was critical with head injuries and fractures at Marshalltown Hospital. Joe was in fair condition at VA Hospital Iowa City with multiple fractures. Truck driver Merle Jans 36 of Reinbeck was uninjured.
Cedar Rapids police report two black women used a pigeon drop to obtain $1000 from a victim in her mid-20s after showing a found $20,000 and claiming she must pay income taxes. A second woman, 65, was approached but declined. Suspects described as 28 with 5 feet 7 inches and 130 pounds, and 30s with 5 feet 8 inches and 115 pounds. Police seek tips.
Regis High School students begin a nonstop bike ride in rollers at 2 30 p m to raise funds for a Bolivian parish building a school and hospital. The relay aims for about 200 dollars, supplementing 150 dollars already raised.
Ronald Ely, jailed for 10 years in Polk county for false uttering of a check, filed suit in Cedar Rapids federal court claiming civil rights violations and attorney misrepresentation. U.S. District Judge Edward J. McManus transferred the case to the southern district in Des Moines.
Randy Butterfield, 20, Sumner, was charged by Fayette county authorities with larceny over $20 for a break in at Bailey's tavern in Oran on November 28. Bond was set at $25,000. Items taken included alcohol cigarettes candy a small amount of change and insulated boots.
Patrolman Eric Gunderson of Waterloo was awarded 30 000 damages for injuries from an assault by two men during a June 1971 trouble call at a supper club. The club was alleged liable for its intoxicated patrons. The two attackers defaulted in the suit.
A U S official reports Moscow and Havana increasing military support to Angola amid civil war. He cites 27 Soviet shiploads since spring and 30 to 40 supply flights since October, about 200 advisers, and 4,000 Cuban troops in combat, while U S aid totals about 25 million dollars in three months with another 25 million planned. American advisers are denied.
Sara Jane Moore Hewitt resisted insanity defenses and told the judge she would answer for her acts. She argued no jury should decide a verdict she sees as foregone. She cited political assassinations and CIA plots against Castro and Allende. She is charged under a federal law for assaults on a President, following Lynette Fromme. Fromme was convicted last month for attempting to kill Ford.
FTC Judge Ernest Barnes ordered the National Commission of Egg Nutrition to stop commercials claiming no scientific evidence of health hazards from eating eggs. He cited substantial evidence linking egg consumption to higher cholesterol and heart disease risk, and required clearer disclosures about industry advocacy. The ruling follows an FTC complaint filed 17 months earlier and awaits full commission action.
A .22 caliber bullet struck the side of Mrs. Michael Unertl’s rural Marion home, passed through the wall, and hit a cupboard ten feet from where she stood. Linn County deputies say a shot was fired about 4 p.m. and are continuing to investigate the incident.
Roger Boleyn of Cedar Falls files a 25000 damage suit in Buchanan county district court alleging Calvin Hoskins of Independence rear ended his car at the First Street and Fifth Avenue SW corner in Independence on July 13, 1974. Boleyn claims neck back shoulder arm and leg injuries.
Kansas City AP Staley wins his 21st NFO presidency after bylaws extend term from one to four years. He defeats Delano Paulson of Dodge Center Minnesota in a 1900 to 1463 vote as the organization shifts leadership duration. Staley helped found the militant farmers group about 20 years ago.
