Wheat Crop Reserves Rise Amid Export Pressure

Wheat stockpiles reached 664 million bushels last June 1 as big crops expanded reserves to the highest in five years, with USDA projecting 948 million next June. Corn stocks grow slowly as most local crop uses livestock feed and only one third of wheat goes to domestic use. Exports may absorb the rest, but 1976 77 wheat exports are seen at about 1.05 billion bushels, down from 1.2. Farm prices fell to 2.46 a bushel from 3.58, prompting farmer calls for price support.
