The White House announced that President and Mrs. Nixon will meet about 30 wives and mothers of servicemen missing in action or prisoners of war in Vietnam. The group was selected by the Defense Department and invited to discuss the servicemen's plight.
The senate agreed to start debate next week on a bill to permit divorce in Italy for the first time. UPI reports the measure moves toward a historic legal change and faces broad political scrutiny.

Gertrude L Brown 72 of 209 Johnson avenue NW died Thursday. A Cedar Rapids resident for 60 years she was born April 5 1897 at Oelwein. She married R D Brown April 9 1932 at Cedar Rapids. She attended Coe College and taught piano for many years.

Gerald Hepker 22 asked for a preliminary hearing on an escape charge in municipal court before Judge Clinton E. Shaeffer. He fled a work release in mid September and was captured in Clearwater Florida in late November while serving a one year sentence for assault with intent to inflict great bodily injury and resisting execution. Judge Shaeffer set January 12 at 2 p.m. for the hearing. Hepker is held in Linn County jail.
Employees at Collins Radio plant will gain easier access via a reversible lane system starting Friday morning on Collins road at F avenue. Two lanes inbound and one outbound in pre noon, reversing to two outbound and one inbound in the afternoon and evening. Collins provides lane markings while the city activates a five phase overhead signal as part of road widening and existing solid state signals at First avenue and C avenue.
About 40 black students were suspended four hours after more than 100 protesters forced their way into Harvard University hall. The group had seized the building, blocked doors with chains and bars, then moved to offices on the ground floor to discuss demands over nonwhite hiring practices.
In Mammoth Onyx cave near Horse Cave Kentucky a natural column formed of onyx is reported to be about 100 million years old. The discovery highlights ancient geological activity in the Mammoth Onyx cavern system.
A Linn district court judge ordered a temporary injunction against strikers at Highway Equipment Co. in Cedar Rapids limiting picketers to six and barring them from injuring or threatening nonstriking employees. The Harmony Lodge No. 831 AFL CIO led the strike on November 3, with union officials named as defendants. The petition cites insulting language and rock and chain throwing, and says police cannot protect employees.
