Three Highway Workers Killed in Separate Crashes

Three Iowa highway workers died on duty in separate crashes Wednesday. Henry Sletten, 25, Osage, Myron Bauer, 45, Ida Grove, and Wilmer OToole, 45, Carroll, were listed as killed while performing highway and bridge construction tasks. Sletten died after a car driver’s radiator boiled over, obscuring vision near Osage. Bauer was struck by a car near Cushin and died at the scene. OToole, a Grady Construction employee, was killed when a road maintainer overturned near Casey. he left behind a wife and many children.

Cedar Rapids Fire Setters Sentenced After Repeated Blazes

Cedar Rapids firefighters battled a familiar blaze for the seventh time in five years. Jack Comstock, 45, of 841 Fourth Ave SE, was sentenced to 30 days in jail for negligent ignition after allegedly lighting a mattress with a cigarette at 2 30 a m. He had a 30 day suspended sentence on a prior offense from November 23.

Arthur L. Berry 58 Walker resident dies in Cedar Rapids

Arthur Leland Berry, 58, a Walker resident for 32 years and die caster at Turner Co. in Cedar Rapids 15 years, died Thursday in a Cedar Rapids hospital. Born June 28, 1901 at Urba na he married Matilda Bednar January 30, 1927 in Cedar Rapids. Car strike injures two men on city streets

Floyd Reynolds aged 68 was treated at Mercy hospital Thursday night for a minor hip injury after being struck at First Avenue and Sixth Street. W Reynolds of 1549 Eighth Avenue SE was struck by a car driven by Richard D. Neal of Mount Vernon. Neal was charged with failure to yield to a pedestrian.

Hopkinton Farmer Henry Klaren Injured Loading Logs

Henry Klaren, 69, and his son Mervin run a farm about 2 1/2 miles southeast of Hopkinton. Henry suffered a broken leg Monday while helping load logs at the farm.

Rayburn to Attend Fundraiser in Cedar Rapids Melee

Speaker Sam Rayburn of Texas will fly into Cedar Rapids Municipal airport Saturday at 3 40 p.m. aboard an Ozark Air Lines plane from St Louis and attend a $10 a plate Democratic rally at Memorial Coliseum at 6 30 p.m. He will hold a press conference at the Sheraton Montrose hotel at 4 30 p.m. Tickets for the annual fund raising affair are moving briskly.

Plan Radiation Institute at SUI

An eight week radiation biology institute will be held next summer in the radiation research laboratory at the University of Iowa. Funded by the National Science Foundation and the Atomic Energy Commission, the course is limited to 20 small college and junior college teachers. Interested teachers should write to Dr. T. C. Institute grants $20,200 to fund stipends and travel
