Three Highway Workers Killed in Separate Crashes
Three Iowa highway workers died on duty in separate crashes Wednesday. Henry Sletten, 25, Osage, Myron Bauer, 45, Ida Grove, and Wilmer OToole, 45, Carroll, were listed as killed while performing highway and bridge construction tasks. Sletten died after a car driver’s radiator boiled over, obscuring vision near Osage. Bauer was struck by a car near Cushin and died at the scene. OToole, a Grady Construction employee, was killed when a road maintainer overturned near Casey. he left behind a wife and many children.

Cedar Rapids Fire Setters Sentenced After Repeated Blazes
Cedar Rapids firefighters battled a familiar blaze for the seventh time in five years. Jack Comstock, 45, of 841 Fourth Ave SE, was sentenced to 30 days in jail for negligent ignition after allegedly lighting a mattress with a cigarette at 2 30 a m. He had a 30 day suspended sentence on a prior offense from November 23.

Car strike injures two men on city streets
Floyd Reynolds aged 68 was treated at Mercy hospital Thursday night for a minor hip injury after being struck at First Avenue and Sixth Street. W Reynolds of 1549 Eighth Avenue SE was struck by a car driven by Richard D. Neal of Mount Vernon. Neal was charged with failure to yield to a pedestrian.
