Joseph A. Petrus 52 longtime Linn county sheriff and later U S deputy marshal died early Wednesday in a Cedar Rapids hospital after surgery and extended illness. He served as Linn county sheriff from 1930 to 1934 and was appointed to the federal post in 1935 by John B. O Keefe and reappointed in 1940 by Fred Biermann.
