President elect Donald Trump thanked cheering Iowans in Des Moines for his victory and said Gov. Terry Branstad could be a key ally as ambassador to China. He praised the rally crowd of about 5,000 and noted Iowa’s six swing state votes. Trump cited winning 50.6 percent of 1.58 million ballots with Pence on stage and contrasted with Hillary Clinton Kaine totals. He spoke of a movement unlike any before and outlined an agenda amid chants of USA.
Betty Andrews of the Iowa-Nebraska NAACP and others say a video showing Cedar Rapids officer Lucas Jones shooting motorist Jerime Mitchell during a Nov. 1 traffic stop contrasts with Linn County Attorney Jerry Vander Sanden’s description. A grand jury ruled Jones justified in the use of force. The NAACP held a meeting at the African American Museum of Iowa to address the dispute.
