Art student apology over Ku Klux Klan sculpture on Pentacrest
Iowa City officials review university duties after a 7 foot KKK effigy with a hidden camera was placed on the Pentacrest from 7 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Friday. The piece carried tar print clippings about past racial tensions and killings. Artist Serhat Tangolacar apologized, saying he hoped the work would spark dialogue and healing. Community demands include public apologies, implicit bias training, and consequences for the artist. The university and NAACP plan forums and town halls to address the incident and its impact.

Cedar Rapids flood project funds lag as new budget unfolds
The city seeks federal and state backing to finish pre engineering and design on the east side of the Cedar Rapids flood control project while pushing for about 24 million of its 73 million construction request. Officials note many authorized flood projects await funding and Congress members are writing administration pleas rather than earmarks. The city has 264 million in state funds over 20 years and 117 million in prior disaster dollars, with the first phase to raise the Quaker Co. flood wall slated to begin in 2015.
