Cross country GPS flight using Collins equipment
An Air Force C-141 will fly from Yuma to Cedar Rapids using Collins Radio GPS navigation gear. Collins notes GPS began transmitting in 1977 and three satellites now enable 10 meter accuracy. After landing, equipment will undergo eight weeks of lab testing before further flight tests. Collins competes for a $50 million GPS development contract with two other firms.
