Midwest Playwrights Laboratory offers 10 fellowships
The Midwest Playwrights Laboratory in Madison invites unpublished plays from writers in 12 states to join a two week summer seminar. Ten fellowships cover participation through staged readings by professional directors and actors from July 29 to August 12. Horne's 25th season with Met Opera Don Carlo run
Marilyn Horne marks 25th year as an opera singer and will perform as Princess Eboli in Verdi's Don Carlo at the Metropolitan Opera in 10 performances from February 5 to March 10. She debuted in 1954 with the Los Angeles Guild Opera Company and will also appear in New York on December 10 at Avery Fisher Hall.

Theaters Create 400 Million in New Business Nationwide
A UPI report cites Theater Communications Group showing 153 nonprofit professional theaters in 35 states generated over 400 million dollars in new local business in 1977. The venues produced 35,800 performances for 11.1 million attendees, with operating costs totaling just over 80 million dollars.
