Iowa Supreme Court rules juvenile cannot be held as sexually violent offender
The Iowa Supreme Court ruled that a 20 year old cannot be committed as a sexually violent offender for acts committed at age 14. Anthony Geltz pleaded guilty as a juvenile to second degree sexual abuse in 2008 and was later civilly committed. The court said state law requires a criminal conviction for commitment and juvenile adjudications do not count.
