Downtown mall eyed for 50 shops in Cedar Rapids

A $10 million indoor mall with 50 shops could open by next October in downtown Cedar Rapids. The project would gut and remodel first three floors of the Sanford’s Montrose and Iowa Illinois buildings with 96 000 square feet for lease. American Developers, Peter Bezanson, and Chuck Loomis lead the venture. Ameri can Redevelopers Inc. would own half the project.

Herbergers Drops Cedar Rapids Department Store Plan

Herbergers Inc of St. Cloud Minnesota decided against opening a department store in the former Killian building in downtown Cedar Rapids. President Robert Sullivan cited lack of need in a market with several established stores. Four die in Jerusalem bus bombing
