Hog prices gain 15 to 20 cents driven by lower receipts due to cold weather and stronger wholesale pork quotas. Top hogs reach 10.30, longest rise in two months, with loins at 16 to 18 1/4 cents per pound. Cattle also firm with steers and heifers lifting prices, lambs steady with slight uptick.
U S Dept. of Agriculture report from Chicago shows hog receipts 26 000 with direct 5 000 and prices up 15 25 cents from Friday. Cattle receipts 15 000 with calves 2 000 fed steers and yearlings up 25 cents and heifers firm to higher. sheep receipts 10 000 with lambs steady to higher and good Western lambs around 8 8 75.
Sioux City AP reports U.S. Dept. of Agriculture cattle receipts at 5 500 with varied movements. Slaughter steers and yearlings steady to strong. cows active and feeders firm. Prime yearlings at 12.00 per hundredweight base prices. hogs receipts 6 000 with opening bids 10 to 15 cents higher.
Receipts include 5 500 sheep with no early action for slaughter, hogs steady with leaners around 9.50 for 140 170 lb hogs and sows mostly 9.40. Feeder pigs down to 7.75. fat ewes and feeders steady. Lambs and lighter weights average around 7.00, lighter at 6.00.

U S Department of Agriculture reports combined hog receipts at 22 Iowa yards and 9 packing plants in interior Iowa and southern Minnesota for the 48 hours to 8 am Monday totaled 51 600, down from 77 000 a week earlier and 29 200 a year ago. Market active with higher bids for various weight classes and pigs unquoted. Trade undertone strong.

Mrs. Dorthea Lehman aged 36 and her son William 14 were burned to death when a log cabin summer residence was destroyed by fire early Monday. Three other family members suffered severe burns.
World war veteran Ralph Will ford of Davenport was found with badly frozen feet at a hobo camp near the Illinois Central depot in Manchester. He was taken to the city jail and plans are being made to move him to the veterans hospital at Des Moines. He is a member of the Davenport post of Veterans of Foreign Wars. Some residents are assisting him.

Henry Newton Taylor, born September 5, 1867 at Mount Vernon, died Sunday at his Marion home. He married Mabelle Cluett in 1911 and had two children Kathryn and George. Survived by son George, mother Samantha, four brothers and one sister. Private funeral Wednesday at Yocom chapel with Rev. Loren Inman. Burial Oak Shade cemetery. No flowers. William A. Worthan aged 89 dies at his daughter Mrs. Aaron Hansen’s Marion home after seven weeks of illness. Born near Marion April 12 1856 he farmed until four years ago then moved to Marion. He is survived by three daughters Mrs. Nora Allen Mrs. Edna Stevens and Mrs. Leona Hansen one son Lowell Del Worthan one brother Henry Worthan eleven grandchildren and previously his wife Flora Stoneking. Funeral at Yocom chapel Tuesday 2 p.m. Rev C E Krog in Campbell cemetery family lot. Friends may call Monday evening.
The condition of Arline Wells, daughter of Mr and Mrs L R Wells of 315 Sixth Street, remained critical Monday morning following a major operation at Mercy Hospital last Wednesday.

The Oxford Masquers stage a Christmas comedy at the family night program after a Methodist church picnic supper. Cast includes Elizabeth Sloss Verne Haworth Blanche Reynolds Lois Stitzel and Minard Stevens. The Oxford boys quartet will sing.
Mr and Mrs Ben Hall of Greene spent the weekend in the home of Harmon Hall and his family including Erma, Don Hall, and Roy King. They traveled Sunday to Davenport to visit Mrs Carrie Bush who is critically ill. Mrs Bush is sister of Harmon and Ben Hall.
Mrs Lara Remington is spending a few days in the home of her daughter Mrs Ralph Michel, located north of Marion. She is visiting for a short stay and to see family.

Mr and Mrs Earl Johnson and daughter Harriet relocate from Red Oak to town. Mr Johnson recently purchased the White Way cafe on Eleventh Street, signaling a new local business entry.

Mrs. Lester Hense and daughter Nancy Lee from Alburnett visited Clarence Reiter. James Tobin fell ill Saturday and was admitted to Mercy Hospital in Cedar Rapids. The Marion board of education met Saturday and accepted the athletic field lease from the Marion Service Club, which had leased it from the city.
Raw sugar prices eased with spots at 3.85 and 1937 quotas futures steady to down. March and July refined granulated at 4.80 dollars, with unchanged prices for refined futures.
The Lions club will meet this week at the High School gymnasium with a club table reserved for the football banquet on Tuesday at 6 30 p.m.

He leaves wife daughter Ethel sister Mrs John A Wild and niece Virginia Wild and nephew Vernon Wild. Funeral Thursday at 2 pm Yocom chapel with Rev E T Gough of ficiating. Burial in Oak Shade cemetery.
Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Hayes and Mrs. Lara Remington hosted twenty relatives at a Sunday turkey dinner in Marion. Attendees included Mrs. W. R. Andrews and daughters Fay and Belle, Jimmy Corwin, Mr. and Mrs. David Gott, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Michel and daughter Jean, Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Carpenter, Mr. and Mrs. Elton Remington and three children, and Carol Jean Hayes.
Sunday dinner hosted by Mr. and Mrs. Harley Erwin near Marion drew guests from Cedar Rapids and Marion including Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Kershner who recently wed. The occasion also celebrated Harley Erwin’s birthday and the Hoskins couple’s December 4 wedding anniversary.

The Epworth League cabinet met Sunday in the church parlors. Lillian Ann Harding led the regular meeting after a picnic supper and discussed the topic South America Calls. The Oxford club planned a playlet for family night and a Christmas play on December 20.
