Sales tax outpacing last year but figures mix with higher rate
Revenues trail last January by about 100 million with the current five month sales tax up 39.3 percent over the prior year. The rise partly reflects a 4 percent rate versus 3 percent last year, effective since April. November figures exclude Christmas sales, which retailers expect to rise about 10 percent. City traders anticipate stronger annual results and that tax revenue will adjust to the higher holiday demand. Road condition numbers follow for non toll lines in Iowa: Cedar Rapids 319 396-3330 Cedar Falls 319 266-7575 Davenport 319 359-4471 Des Moines 515 288-1047 Ames 515 472-5194 Fort Dodge 515 955-4678 Mason City 515 424-1292.
