Clayton County OK's major road regrading planned for 1983
Clayton County will spend about 2.85 million next year on secondary roads, down from 2.997 million this year due to a 150000 cut in federal revenue sharing. Four regrading projects are set for Y-13, W-67, X-28 and C-7x plus a 350000 bridge on X-41. State money totaling 725000 will fund widening drains and regrading these sections. Still awaiting IDOT approval is paving the final Great River Road segment from Millville to North Buena Vista.

City seeks repayment from former Denison mayor
In Crawford County District Court Denison seeks to recover 4506 dollars from ex mayor Gerald Smithson. The suit grows from a 5000 dollar loan to Pat Wingrove for an undercover drug probe in February 1981. The city contends the loan was authorized by Smithson without council approval. Wingrove was repaid 450 dollars and the city later agreed to 4000 dollars plus 506.86 in costs. The city now sues Smithson under Iowa law. Denison is 90 miles west of Ames.

UNIA Stands Against Reagan Teen Sub-minimum Wage
The University of Northern Iowa Student Association votes 27 to 2 against a proposed sub-minimum wage for teenagers. They warn it would pit older students and parents against teen labor, hinder college savings, and leave non-teen students unemployed as employers seek cheap young labor. UNISA President Rusty Martin criticizes the proposal as harming students and financial aid.
