Ronald Leroy Neuhauf, 17, Mason City high school student, won the Iowa state Voice of Democracy contest. He will represent Iowa in the national competition and receive a four year $1200 scholarship at William Penn College. The Iowa Broadcasters Assn sponsored the event with 15 contestants speaking on democracy.

Man Dies After Stroke Found Outdoors in Cold
Forest City reports 76 year old Silas Moe died after exposure in a hospital. Coroner Arnold Anderson of Lake Mills said Moe suffered a probable stroke while returning home late Thursday and spent the night on the ground as temperatures neared zero. He lived alone and was found by a neighbor.
