Murphy denies quid pro quo with unions over budget concessions
Iowa House Speaker Pat Murphy says no deal exists with unions that agreed to five unpaid days off to balance the budget. He notes unions, including AFSCME Iowa Council 61 and State Police Officers Council, will still face votes on labor-backed measures. The prevailing wage bill failed to pass as Cedar Rapids flood recovery and infrastructure plans loom. Murphy cites credit to unions for concessions while stressing no promised legislative favors.
