Northeastern Iowa Synod defies ELCA on gay clergy policy
The Northeastern Iowa Synod council, based in Waverly, passed a resolution November 14 by 10 votes to 5 to keep clergy celibate and oppose the ELCA churchwide assembly ruling allowing committed same gender relationships. Rev. Marshall Hahn led the measure noting 22 years of existing rules remain in effect. If approved at the June full assembly, the policy could restrict future pastoral calls across the 181 synod churches.

Cedar Rapids Holiday DeLight Parade Draws 25th Year Floats
The annual downtown Cedar Rapids parade begins at 6 pm on Sixth Street and Second Avenue SE with a 5 pm tree lighting at First Avenue and First Street NE. Leonard Pfeifer marks 25 years of float entries, known for castles and stars, created near his Time Check neighborhood home hit by recent floods. He previously contributed to the Navajo Night Stalkers and Czech Heritage Foundation entries. The Czech Village features Svaty Mikulas today from 10 am to noon and a bandstand lighting at 5:30 pm. Decorations by Pfeifer on display at Kundl Mall, 59 16th Ave SW.
