Cedar Rapids Fire Deaths Mount as 64YearOld Man Dies
A Cedar Rapids man James DeWitt aged 64 died after a Friday fire in his one story frame home at 1555 Eighth Avenue SE. Firemen pulled him from the smoke filled living room after 2 p.m. He had burns and was pronounced dead at Mercy hospital. The blaze caused heavy heat and smoke damage though actual fire damage was light. DeWitt was the city's tenth fire death of 1970. His wife Agnes was at work elsewhere.
