Cosgrove girls favored to defend Capitol Valley title after a 2-0 start led by Elaine and Mary Rohert. Prairie high school awards 23 football letters and co captains

Twenty three varsity letters are awarded at Prairie High School. Seniors Ron Duffe and Marian Rohlena are named co captains. A Booster Club banquet on Dec 13 will honor the letter winners with coach Wally Schwank as speaker. J C Rally Tops Morley in 37 34 Tilt

Immaculate Conception of Cedar Rapids rallied from an eight point fourth quarter deficit to defeat Morley 37 34 in a seventh and eighth grade basketball game. Morley was led by John Jackson with 17 points Jim Cummins added 13 and Dave Naughton 11.

St Mary’s Stuns St Pat’s 41 39 in late rally

Waterloo St Mary’s used a fourth quarter surge led by 6-5 center Mike McMahan to beat St Patrick’s 41-39 at St. Pat’s gym. Novotny left with fouls early in the fourth. St Mary’s outscored St Pat’s 14-7 in the final period to seize the win.

Six Cedar Rapids Teams Enter ABC Tourney in St. Louis

Six Cedar Rapids bowling teams including Ken Borschel and Son, Fleck Falstaff, Jerabek's, Novak's, Post Office and 7-Up have reserved dates for the 56th American Bowling Congress tournament in St. Louis. The event runs February 14 through April 23 with entries closing January 13.

Armstrongs win 59 47 in YWCA game

Armstrongs led by Jean Overbeck with 20 points defeated St Luke's 59 to 47. Judy Foote Dickens scored 25 for St Luke's as Eleanor Licht Werndt topped scoring with 42 for The Gazette in a separate 60 49 victory over Collins led by Joyce Henderson with 19.
