Parents fear as WellCare joins Iowa Medicaid plan

Health care questions rise for families after Iowa moves 560000 Medicaid enrollees to four out of state managed care firms on New Year’s Day. Julie Heidger worries about access as her children, all on Medicaid, are assigned to three different providers including WellCare of Iowa for her cerebral palsy son. An administrative judge previously recommended dropping WellCare’s contract for improper bidding disclosures. Governor Branstad says the transition will proceed while reviewing the ruling.
