Cedar Rapids Public Schools Readies for Enrollment Surge
Nearly 24 720 students expected on opening day as Cedar Rapids public schools open with 8970 seats short and makeshift classrooms. Portable units moved in at Jefferson High to relieve space while three schools face delayed additions until October. Superintendent Dr. Craig Currie cites space as top issue amid district-wide administrative refinements and new neighborhood curriculum trials.

Officials cited $4.7 million in interest free funds from 197 through 1989 and projected $140,000 for the coming year under current terms.
