Wood sculptor Willard Stone Reflects Deep Faith
Locust Grove Oklahoma AP profile of Willard Stone a Cherokee German Scot artist who quit a Tulsa aircraft plant ten years earlier to pursue wood sculpture. His works blend Christian belief with Native American themes including Madonna figures and a baby Christ in SS style. He aims to tell creation story through nature. He plans busts of five Native American chiefs for display at the Five Civilized Tribes Museum Muskogee. Stone lives on a 30 acre farm with family and animals and recalls a boyhood hand injury that spurred his artistic path.
