Marion public schools will open Monday at 9 a.m. for a half day with kindergarten A to M at 9 o clock and N to Z at 10 30. Birth certificates required for new kindergartners and first graders. The list of faculty includes C B Vernon superintendent and Glen Nicholson senior high principal among many Marion and Cedar Rapids teachers. Third Generation Begins School in Same Classroom
Jamie Stone five, daughter of Donald Stone of Marion, starts kindergarten Monday in the Irving building room where two prior generations began school. Her grandfather James C. Sherbon, a Walker farmer, first attended that room in 1897, with teacher Mrs. Reinheimer. Jamie and her father share a July 7 birthday. The 1883 schoolhouse remains largely unchanged and Jamie’s teacher is Mrs. Ruby Powles. Also noted are local notices of furloughs, promotions, base transfers, and appointments across towns including Marengo, Calmar, Postville, and Walker with names such as Edna Mae Kemp, Bonnie Duncan, and Lt.
