Judge C J Haas sentenced him to concurrent life terms at Fort Madison and he was taken to the penitentiary by the sheriff less than an hour after sentencing. The killings of his father in law and mother in law occurred June 22 in Lisbon.
Robert Burke 32 of 956 Tenth Street SE arrested at 3 15 a m on drunkenness after an unidentified car hit a parked vehicle on Fifth Street SE and fled. Burke admitted driving and striking the parked car but did not inspect damage. His brother Willard, present, showed no intoxication. A Royal Hughes employee reported a separate hit on his parked car on Fifth Street SE.
Sunlight boosted Cedar Rapids temperatures with a 7 am low of 59 rising to 76 at 9 45 am and 84 by 1 15 and 2 30 pm. Monday reached 83 at 4 pm then cooled to 75 at 7 pm and 62 at midnight per the Chambers Inskeep recorder.

Stockholders of Standard Oil of Nebraska voted to accept Standard Oil of Indiana’s offer to purchase the Nebraska company for 17 dollars and 50 cents a share. The sale was 81 percent in favor and 2 percent opposed, with closing expected in 30 days after a $800000 good faith deposit.
