The Iowa liquor control commission posted a net profit of 2,590,828 for the year ended June 30, with liquor sales at 11,420,747 and costs at 8,018,869. Expenditures reached 1,136,138 in stores and administration, salaries 807,341, rents 133,962, and other expenses 194,834, leaving a cash balance of 2,226,127 after transfers to the state general fund and attorney general. 616,212 cases were delivered, trucking costs 62,250, and postage reduced by store deliveries. 24,737 liquor arrests yielded 22,901 convictions, with intoxication the leading offense.

Dredging Project On Iowa River Nears Completion
R S Trust an area engineer for WPA reports the Iowa river dredging begun last September ties into the University of Iowa river front beautification. About 300000 cubic yards of silt moved from the river bed into a low area south to the fine arts building and city park bridge. Another 200000 cubic yards flooded the area near the fine arts building while the rest raised old Iowa field to street level. The work is funded by WPA the university the Iowa conservation commission and the emergency conservation commission.

A fire at the Sac and Fox Indian school near Tama caused about 2000 in damage to the frame building. The blaze started from a refrigerator in the home economics area. smoke poured from a ventilator around 7 30 a.m. Principal H W Benedict alerted the Tama fire department and contained the fire until firefighters arrived. The building, about a year and a half old, lacks water protection. a hole burned through wall and floor of the kitchen with the refr igerator dropping to the basement.
