Five Year Old Leaves Pierce Elementary in Cedar Rapids
A 5-year-old girl walked out of Pierce Elementary School on Monday morning and was later dropped at home by a stranger after a 30 minute absence amid a heat advisory. Her father, John Thompson, a candidate for Iowa House District 80, spoke at a Cedar Rapids school board meeting urging stronger safety plans for all students. The district says staff acted promptly, is reviewing events, and will reinforce safety measures to prevent future incidents.
