Big Rubber Firm Is Hit By Walkout
In Akron, the CIO United Rubber Workers launched a strike against B. F. Goodrich, ordering about 17,000 workers across seven states to walk out amid wage talks. Plants in Miami and Oaks paused or planned closures, while Goodrich accused the union of using the firm as a wage‑trial target. The union seeks 25 cent an hour raises and $100 monthly pensions, with others negotiating under industry pressure and similar contracts at General Tire Firestone and Goodyear set to expire next year.
