Schools Look to Win Against Cellphones
Isabella Pires first noticed what she calls the gradual apathy pandemic in eighth grade. At her Massachusetts school few joined service projects and even fewer showed up. In high school the problem worsened with lackluster Spirit Week and scarce student discussion. Teachers cite cellphone addiction as the core cause and test bans, pouches, and after school activities as responses. Spokane and Maine districts expand clubs and outdoor programs to counter isolation, while parents and educators urge creative, hands on engagement to boost attendance and motivation.
