Wallace LaPeters charged that Safety Commissioner Eldon Colton fired him to deflect a brewing scandal. LaPeters described press conference claims of misfeasance and malfeasance by Colton, including pressuring witnesses, tampering with testimony, and improper SWAT team use.
Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co and the United Rubber Workers announced a tentative three year master contract ending the 126 day strike. The deal includes a $1.35 hourly raise over three years, a cost of living allowance and notable pension and benefit boosts. Ford Motor Co is viewed as the UAW's 1976 strike target as talks continue. One hostage killed and two injured after police storm a South Omaha tavern following a knifepoint standoff by an Oklahoma man.
