War cuts supplies of dry cleaners
War restrictions hit dry cleaning supplies in St Louis with shortages of paper bags and coat hangers. Paper bags ran out after June’s shipment of 25 000. July and August orders of 50 000 each were not fulfilled. Chlorine use and pulp cuts, plus Norwegian wood pulp limits, and Canadian mills operating at two thirds capacity, shrink material for bags and hangers. Some cleaners reuse hangers as drivers gather from customers.
