Government Abandons Self Insurance Plan For Corn

The agricultural adjustment administration dropped a self insurance plan for stored government corn after protests from private insurers. The plan would have pooled farmer deposits into a trust to cover losses, while private insurers would still issue certificates on resealed corn. Officials noted reduced premium rates since 1933, and farm officials estimated more than 1.3 million dollars in potential benefits to private firms from the decision. Des Moines Iowa crop reporter Charles D. Reed noted frost risk is low for late fields, with rains affecting soybean haying and alfalfa prospects remaining favorable for seeding.
