Ricketts Family Wins Bid to Own Chicago Cubs Franchise
Tribune Co reaches an agreement to sell the Chicago Cubs, Wrigley Field, and a 25 percent stake in Comcast SportsNet Chicago to the Ricketts family for about 800 million dollars, valuing the package at 845 million. The deal creates a 95 percent ownership with Tribune retaining 5 percent. Joe Ricketts and son Tom led the bid amid a prolonged sale process and competing offers. The Ricketts aim for a World Series title under local family ownership.
