Meany Calls Nationalization of Struggling Firms
AFL-CIO President George Meany urged a labor campaign to nationalize any business whose workers are or can strike due to public interest. He warned that removing the right to strike undermines collective bargaining and cited the railroad dispute as a catalyst for his stance. He also pressed for equal apprentice rights for Black workers and housing desegregation, while Humphrey urged eradicating city slums and enforcing law.
