The find followed initial speculation by Capt William Babcock that the body might be the heiress.

Morton Denison Hull aged 60 a former Republican congressman from Illinois died after a long illness at his summer home in Bennington Vermont.
Rep. E. B. Cox charges John L. Lewis and the CIO plan a post adjournment nationwide industrial disorder. He says the CIO would paralyze industries in the South and force concessions, calling Lewis a threat to the Democratic Party and urging action against a $50,000 Mine Workers debt.

J Howard Mark 58 was found hanged in a barn owned by Postmaster Ralph Schroeder in Dysart. A coroner's inquest ruled suicide. Mark, foreman at Hawkeye Canning, had overseen the August work that killed August Filgraf, a fellow worker, though no blame was found. He left a wife and two sons dead and was survived by two brothers in Cedar Rapids.
Salt Lake City dispatch reports John Montague the 32 year old golfer and friend of movie celebrities travelling to face a seven year old robbery charge paused briefly. He claimed to be teaching guards a new bridge system that could surpass Culbertson once mastered.

Fire destroyed the Monmouth county hotels Park Lane and the five story New Moneymaker, housing about 220 guests. Firefighters, police, and Fort Monmouth personnel rescued guests. one firefighter was treated for smoke inhalation and listed in good condition. Flames controlled by 10 p.m. with no injuries reported.
Berlin reports a shortage of female farm labor forces the Nazi government to import women from Czechoslovakia and Austria for the harvest. They will be paid on the same basis as German workers.

In Oakland an Alpine building window ledge drama left Alfred Henry Barraud dead after clinging to the ninth floor. Bernard Foster an army air corps officer struggled to hold Barraud from plunging. Barraud begged to be let go as Foster’s grip failed. Police said Barraud was visiting a high office when the window was raised and he acted suspiciously. Barraud cried to be saved, but fell six stories to the top of the boiler room.
