Beginning September 4, towns in northern Linn County can use LIFTS transit services that traditionally served the elderly and disabled. The system is opening to general public riders to increase access. Details appear on page 5A.
Crime Stoppers awarded the maximum $1,000 to a citizen whose anonymous tip led to the arrest of Shawn Heins, 19, in the May 5 Cedar Rapids assault. Victim Dennis Galli, 30, suffered severe head injuries. Heins is charged with willful injury and held on $12,000 bail.
Ames Richard Meyer, who left Michigan State University to head the ISU Foundation, will return to Michigan State in September as vice president for development. Meyer, 54, previously served as associate vice president and director of development at MSU. Iowa State will launch a major capital campaign on September 7.
