Witnesses describe run ins with Marengo murder victim at trial
Defense witnesses in the Denise Frei murder trial testified about encounters with Curtis Bailey who police said was a hothead. Frei 45 is charged with first degree murder claiming self defense and insanity for her part in the July 19 2009 beating death in Marengo. Bailey 33 faced co conspirators and the trial heard about past confrontations from 1997 to 2009 including a beer bottle incident and a roofing dispute ending with threats. The defense argued abuse by Bailey, while prosecutors completed their case. The trial resumes Monday in Scott County District Court.
