Four teens injured in car train crash at city crossing
A car struck a Chicago and North Western locomotive at the Fourth Street crossing on Eighth Avenue SE at about 7 55 p.m. One teen, Donald Neal 15 of 700 41st Ave Dr SW, was listed in critical condition at Mercy Hospital with head injuries. Driver Kevin Kerker 19 and two passengers Bruce Phillips 19 and Beverly Huls 17 were treated and released.

Cedar Rapids man charged in Iowa City assault case
Jason Michael Taggart of Cedar Rapids faced an initial hearing in Johnson County District Court on an assault with willful injury charge. He allegedly told Michael A. White he wanted him “six feet under” before punching kicking and forcing White's head to a sidewalk. White treated at Mercy Hospital for a forehead laceration a broken tooth and possible concussion. Taggart was arrested Thursday by the Johnson County Sheriff's Department and released to Sixth Judicial District Corrections.

Walter Schaer er of Amana, 67, former Colony Inn co owner, is accused in U S District Court of receiving 10447 in Social Security retirement benefits while not entitled.
