Canadian Jurist Proposes Abolishing Civil Jury Trials
A Canadian chief justice urged the American Bar Association to abolish juries in all civil trials. Justice C Campbell McLaurin of Alberta's supreme court said judges are capable of handling civil cases, noting Alberta averages one civil jury trial per year and most criminal trials proceed without a jury. He argued a union-jury system could work in American courts as well.
