Hints Corn Locis For This Fall SPIKE EVANS Sees Need For Such A Course

SPIKE Evans, former Iowa corn and hog committee chair and aide to Secretary Wallace, told about 800 farmers at an eastern Iowa AAA picnic that a corn loan program this fall is likely as a stopgap before permanent farm legislation. He urged production control and a broad national program with soil conservation, an ever normal granary, and parity income to stabilize farmers and consumers. Continued on Page 4, Column 5.

Harvest Fete Draws 9 000 in Springville

Special to The Gazette at Springville Harvest Home festival and Ox Roast drew about 9 000 attendees. Iowa highway safety chief John Hattery urged motorists and pedestrians to observe signs and drive safely, stressing parental involvement and school lessons in safe driving. Over 5 000 people enjoyed the roast, with two beeves purchased for $100. Early events included a pony show won by Dale Holst and Bob Rose, morning talks at Butler Park, and a main street bicycle race in the afternoon with top finishers Clair Richardson and Bert Cooper Jr.

Seven Milk Cows Die Of Poisoning At Iowa Farm

TOLEDO Iowa AP seven milk cows in the T K Holliday dairy herd have died from poisoning in the last two days. Holliday family and the sheriff refused to comment. Investigators looked for poison used against grasshoppers but none was applied at the farm.

Member of Singing Team Nearly Drowns in Canoe Accident
