At Oak Hill, Tiger Woods struggled through a 73 in the third round of the PGA Championship. He blamed timing and bruised confidence while lamenting a difficult, unforgiving course and a rough week overall.
Michael, winless in 163 PGA starts, surged with birdies to lead on a steamy Oak Hill afternoon. Els, tied for the lead earlier, finished with 70 and sits five behind as Campbell and Baird chase at 211. Mickelson sits eight over.
Shaun Micheel and Chad Campbell sit 4 under 206 while Campbell posts the low round 65. Mike Weir five back, Ernie Els six behind. Tiger Woods eyes first non major season since 1998. Michael cues nerves and surge as Campbell closes strong in final round setup.
Jim Thorpe tied a PGA Champions Tour record with a 10 under 60 to lead after two rounds at Eisenhower Park Red Course. He owns a two shot edge over Bob Gilder, with Des Smyth at 8 under and Mike McCullough one back.
Florida native Bunny Baird shot a 3-under 67 at Oak Hill to tie for fifth in the PGA Championship. He trails co leaders Chad Campbell and Shaun Micheel by five while highlighting his charity work with Canon that donates per birdie and eagle. Hal Sutton also posted a 67 earlier in the week as competitors refine their swings.
