The 86th annual Linn County Old Settlers Association reunion is planned for August 26 at Marion Christian Church. Registration starts at 10 am. Residents who have lived in Linn County for 25 years or more are eligible for membership with a 50 cent registration fee. Active attendees encouraged.

Hyland to preside over Ebert sentencing in Tama case
Judge John L. Hyland, now in Tama county district court, was designated to impose sentence on George M. Ebert 23 Ames. Judge James Carter, who had presided, disqualified himself. Ebert pled guilty to conspiracy to commit a felony linked to an illicit drug factory found by Tama county deputies in July 1975. He seeks a deferred sentence to remain in medical school and says Carter cannot evaluate impartially. A motion to quash a pre sentence investigation is set for Friday.
