Willie Williams aged 18 of 504 Tenth Street SE is held in Linn county jail on $10,000 bond after being charged with raping a 15 year old Cedar Rapids girl near Ninth avenue SE early Tuesday. Police say he grabbed the girl and dragged her into an alley. he had been released from jail a week earlier after an assault on Patty K VanDeusen at 1133 Ninth Street NW. She escaped after he struck her in the 500 block of Tenth street SE. Williams faces related assault with intent charges from that incident.

Man Held as John Doe After Intoxication Incident

Police found a drunk man sleeping near 1218 Thirty-third Street NE early Tuesday. He gave a different name each time asked, attempted to flee when told he would be arrested, and bumped a car before being booked as John Doe in Linn County jail on $250 bond for intoxication and resisting an officer.

A Van Fleet farm barn near Decorah was also destroyed, with pigs and 5,000 bales of hay lost, damage about 30,000. A West Union high school electrical fire caused unknown damage. Fire crews from Decorah and Mabel responded. Heavy rains followed, totaling over three inches in Fayette and West Union by midmorning.

Third Arrest Reported in Robbery Case

Darryl E. Pettit twenty one of 2551 Glass road NE charged Monday with robbing George Pryor at 1324 Tenth street NW on August 11. The same incident led to charges against Robert L. Santee and Sandra Mae Bowdish for robbery last week. Pettit held in Linn county jail in lieu of ten thousand dollar bond.

Court Handles Three Drug Possession Cases

Three defendants faced Linn district court for possession of controlled substances. Michael Jones pled guilty to marijuana possession and paid a 300 dollar fine. David Gutierrez pled guilty to marijuana possession and paid a 200 dollar fine. Steven Durgin pled guilty to hashish possession and received 90 days in jail with 80 suspended. he also pled guilty to contributing to a minor theft incident and was given 10 days with credit for time served.

Woman Robbed by Five Men in SE City Alley

Gerri Vaughan reports five men in their 20s robbed her Monday night in the 600 block of an alley between Fourth and Fifth avenues SE. One man knocked her down and another stepped on her right arm as her purse was taken. purse items valued about $80 including $50 cash.

Four Injured in Cedar Rapids Auto and Pedestrian Incidents

Cedar Rapids residents were injured in three single vehicle crashes since Sunday. Liliane Springman 46 was hospitalized with a pelvic fracture after backing a car from a private driveway on Glenbrook drive SE. The car struck a tree and shrubbery and ended in a neighbor's yard. Jason Kehoe 2 was treated and released after the same crash. police did not list his name in the report. Cathey McNabb 25 was treated and released after being knocked from a mini bike at Seminole Valley park Sunday night. Sharon Kruger 22 was treated and released after stepping in front of a car on Highway 30 Tuesday morning driven by Larry Gosnell 27. No charges filed. In Palo, Robert Camp reported three rifles worth 470 stolen from his locked pickup camper downtown Friday evening. 10 years ago, lawyers for anti-war witnesses left a House committee on un-American Activities hearing after a lawyer was dragged from the room.
