Miss Helen Mokress and fiancé Frank Lavacek of Yonkers are among honored couples with hosts Mr and Mrs Franklin S Battin of Cottage Grove hosting a dinner. Virginia Ellis receives two parties ahead of Sept 2 wedding to Matthew C Stewart.
Jean Ferguson 1906 Washington Ave SE entertained at the Commonwealth Tea Room on Thursday afternoon honoring Dorothy Ridgeway of Neenah Wisconsin formerly of Cedar Rapids. Joining were Misses Carol Jean Curran Kathleen Hanson Diane Waples Pamela Craemer Robinette Kutchera Janice Bailey Carol Kopel Helen Joyce Hicks Betty Mae Becker Barbara Rapaport Elaine Smulekoff Shirley Nichols Arline Nadine Sinaiko Mary Louise Nelson and Tucie Imes.
Mr and Mrs Will J Price of Scarsdale NY and their children Billy and Margot returned Thursday from Des Moines after a ten day visit to resume their stay at the home of Mrs Price s parents Mr and Mrs Ben H Witwer 1928 Linden drive SE Mr Price will leave Friday for Scarsdale while Mrs Price and the children stay two weeks longer at the Witwer home
Miss Henrietta Dows daughter of Sutherland and Mrs Dows of Twenty seventh street drive SE is visiting Lake Forest Illinois as the house guest of Miss Kathleen Lord and will return to Cedar Rapids Monday.
Mr and Mrs R R Williamson of 1715 Washington Ave SE host guests for a few days including Mrs D Keith Irwin and Rev Irwin from New York City with daughter Betty Ellen and Miss Laura Williamson of West Union. En route to Lincoln Neb stopping overnight were Mr and Mrs Lester Rumbaugh of New York City.
Charles Knox Jr son of Mr and Mrs Charles S Knox 350 Pleasant Drive SE returned Wednesday after three weeks in the east visiting relatives in Fredericksburg Va and Wethersfield Conn and attending the New York World’s Fair
Mr. and Mrs. M. J. Kelly and daughters Eugenia and Joan of 2029 Washington avenue SE depart Thursday for Pittsburgh to visit Mr. Kelly's mother and attend the New York world's fair.
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Sherman of Chicago with children Nancy Ann and Sadie Leibsohn Sherman have returned home after a two week stay with Mrs. Sherman's parents Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Leibsohn at 1955 Fifth Avenue SE.
Mrs. G King Thompson of 2008 Fifth Avenue SE and her son Bill along with David Warren of 2008 Fifth Avenue SE returned Wednesday after spending two weeks at Lake Okoboji.
Miss Virginia Black of 2418 Grande avenue SE and Miss Ruth Moore of Union City Michigan will return Thursday evening after spending two weeks at Estes Park Colorado Miss Moore will be a guest in the Black home.
Sokol hall hosted a reception by local Czech organizations for Dr. Alice Masaryk daughter of the late Thomas Masaryk first president of Czech oslovakia. Hundreds of guests greeted her between 3 and 5 pm and an all-Czechoslovakian menu was served. Escort for the afternoon included Mrs. Thomas Suchomel and Dr. Anna Heyberger of Coe College.
Debor ah guild of First Presbyterian church hosted a reception and miscellaneous shower for Clare Nichols and Andrew Peter sen at the home of Lottie Howell 1724 Second Ave SE. Mrs Frank Wells led the serving table with garden flowers yellow tapers and umbrellas. Miss Jennie Robinson prepared verses for each gift. Twenty seven attendees included former Alice King guild members.
After a wedding in June, Udell A. Leibsohn and his wife moved from the home of Mr and Mrs Phillip Leibsohn to their apartment at 1834 First avenue East following several weeks there.
Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Frasinger announce the marriage of their daughter Ilene to Bruce E. Merrifield son of Mr. and Mrs. Morgan H. Merrifield. The ceremony occurred at St. Patrick's church at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday with Rev. Father D. G. Peters officiating Attendants were Mr. and Mrs. John R. Murphy. Guests were later entertained at the bride’s parents home.
Miss Mae Fern Uhlenhopp was guest of honor at a buffet supper given by First United Brethren church choir members at the Cowdens home. Music and appreciation talks toasted her work as choir pianist before she departed for Detroit to assume a director position at Bright Moor community center.

Mrs. Wayne J. Foster hosted a luncheon for her sister Mrs. J. Reid Green in Chicago. Miss Marie Todd of Warrensburg, Missouri visit includes events hosted by Delbert R. Ashby and L. J. Storey with lunch at the Roosevelt continental grill.
Word has been received of the birth of a son named William Terrill on August 15 to Mr and Mrs William Milnes Trowbridge of Clarion The mother formerly Mary Caroline Varner daughter of Mr and Mrs A M Varner of 528 Thirtieth Street Drive SE Mrs Varner has returned after a week in Clarion
Mr and Mrs Philip Listebarger announce the marriage of their son Earl Robert a seaman on the USS Bridge stationed in San Diego California to Miss Mary Jayne Mansard of San Diego daughter of Mr and Mrs George Mansard of Oklahoma. The wedding occurred July 25 in San Diego and they will live at 1207 G street San Diego.
Mrs J F Colburn of Windermere apartments entertained Wednesday evening at dinner in honor of Mrs T J Reid of Chicago. Mrs Reid and her daughter Eleanor are visiting Mrs R P Tremel of the Commonwealth apartments.
The Harmony club met Wednesday afternoon at Bever park with Mrs Elna Johnson as hostess. A business meeting was held and the afternoon was spent socially. The club will meet Aug 23 with Mrs Edith Kisling 328 Second Avenue SW.
A dessert luncheon honored two Cedar Rapids residents departing for new homes. Mrs. Leonard R. Wilson and Mrs. E. K. Steul were feted by Mrs. Lee Beardsley and others. Wilson plans a year at Ohio State University before moving to Columbus. Steul will reside in Madison, Wisconsin.
