Maurice Baringer state treasurer will be a special guest at the Mesquakie Indian pow wow Sunday afternoon. He will speak briefly during intermission of the afternoon performance. The Tama county board of supervisors and Tama city council cooperated to oil a gravel road along the pow wow grounds to ease dust. The pow wow runs Thursday through Sunday with shows at 1:30 and 7:30 p.m.

Starmont to Name Bond Issue Steering Committee
STORMONT, Iowa. The Starmont board of education this week considered forming a central steering committee to promote a proposed high school addition. A first meeting is set for Aug 30 at 8 p.m. The board discussed bonding specialists and approved voluntary participation in a PhonoCardio Scan program for early heart defect detection. Ray Defends Development Unit Booth at State Fair
DES MOINES AP Gov Robert Ray backs the Iowa development commission effort to erect an 11650 booth at the state fairgrounds. The executive council approved the expenditure pending Ray's approval after the booth was under construction. Ray said the fair is a good place for the display and defended the commission's bidding method as appropriate for public relations ideas.

Cyclist Injured After Decorah High Speed Chase
Alfred Laforgia, 31, formerly of Spring Grove Minnesota, is being treated at Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital for a fractured ankle, bruises and lacerations after a motorcycle chase with Decorah police Tuesday night. He received six summonses including two counts of speeding two stop sign violations reckless driving and failure to stop for an emergency vehicle.
