Ed Mann to be Cedar Rapids first Hall of Fame softball inductee
Cedar Rapids, now a top softball city, will honor Edward F Mann at the state tournament Aug 14 16 at Welty Way Park. Mann drove Cedar Rapids teams 1916 1938, later Clinton and back, and will join four others in the Hall of Fame ceremony. He notes peers Ray Burlingame and Bobby Reed are already honorees and recalls early rivals and major Beer teams of the era.

Welty-Way hosts 13-team Iowa state softball tourney
The Welty-Way complex in southwest Cedar Rapids hosts a 13-team USA Iowa state softball tournament this weekend. The double elimination event runs Thursday through Sunday with 25 or 26 games to crown the Iowa entrant to the USA Mid-Central regional in St Louis on Aug 29–Sept 1. Hall of Fame inductees include Ed Mann, Kenny Elkema, Sam Concord, L J Favors, and Howard Judd. Fighting for the title are Welty-Way, defending champion Bombers of Des Moines, and Collins Radio, a Cedar Rapids squad that beat Welty Way twice this season.
